After a stroll on the cliff path, my partner and I dropped in for coffee at a café in Onrus. The waiter, who was masked, took our order, and a few minutes later the coffee arrived, served by the owner herself – without a mask.
“Where’s your mask?” I asked, somewhat concerned. ”In the kitchen,” she snapped. “I hope that’s good enough an answer for you.”
Just then one of her employees arrived from deliveries. Unmasked and without sanitising his hands, he went straight to the coffee machine. We didn’t stay long.
A few days later we had coffee on the other side of town in Voëlklip. Our temperatures were taken and hands sanitised on arrival. All the staff wore masks or visors, and our table was disinfected before we sat down.
Guess whose restaurant we’ll visit again – virus or not.
