The heart-breaking story of more than 100 whales being trapped in secret underground “jails” was confirmed as being true by the website Snopes.com. The story was originally reported by an independent Russian newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, on 30 October 2018. According to reports there are 90 beluga whales and 11 orcas being held in tiny enclosures that have been dubbed “whale prisons or whale jails”. Apparently some of these whales have been held captive since July 2018, before being sold for entertainment purposes in the burgeoning marine park industry in China. Read more here.
